The World According to Ivana Stab

No dugongs = boogong!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

I had a good day today, even with the rain. It was cold enough to wear my beloved leather jacket and hang around sheltered areas watching the rain fall, smoking. Annie & I went to the city with plans of seeing the greatest animals in the world, dugongs, at the Aquarium, but when we got there, there was a line of people halfway across Darling Harbour so we decided to postpone. Instead we wandered the rainy city, making up stories about Lazarus the Dugong – we will befriend a dugong and he will run away from the Aquarium with us. He will wear a monocle, a coat-tail and a top hat, and he will read Hemingway whilst smoking a cigar and say “mmmyes” a lot.

When there are no dugongs, it is BOO-gong!

We had coffee and cigarettes at Jet, then walked to Chinatown for food, then raided Basement Books where I bought Captain Mooface for $1, then headed home. As we were getting on the train, a guy who was clearly on something like speed told us he liked our style and started talking about 80s hair bands and asking about our favourite bands and such. His favourites were Aerosmith and Def Leppard. He had A LOT of energy and looked like he’d explode from it any moment. Fascinating character.

Also, it was so fucking good to see Annie. It’d been waaaaaaay too long since we’d hung out.
